By Dave Daubert
Escape to this picturesque Puerto Rican locale unlike any other. At Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Puerto Rico Golf & Beach Resort the placid charm of a golden beachfront and sapphire seas meets the natural beauty of the El Yunque rainforest, a destination in its own right. This luxurious and spellbinding 500-acre retreat gives guests all they need for an unforgettable Caribbean getaway. After the devastating hurricane, the resort rebounded with a complete remodeling effort. Now is the perfect time to rediscover this lush destination.
Wyndham Grand Rio Mar is nestled perfectly on the island's northern shore. Unwind on a two-mile stretch of quiet beach along the shimmering waves of the Atlantic Ocean. From the captivating wonder of the Bioluminescent Bay to the excitement of ziplining through the jungle, there are endless opportunities for adventure near the resort.
After settling into one of the 400 newly remodeled spacious guest rooms and suites, you can enjoy the tranquil lagoon-style resort pools with one exclusively for adults, a relaxing spa, an on-site casino, fine dining, and two state-of-the-art golf courses. Inspired by the volcanic island of Bali, Mandara Spa is a 7000 square foot sanctuary of wellness offering a full array of luxurious botanical treatments. Discover oceanfront meditation areas, a full-service salon, steam rooms, and other calming amenities with your complete relaxation in mind. With a wide variety of restaurants and bars to choose from, guests can indulge in everything from authentic Puerto Rican cuisine to fresh seafood and frozen cocktails.
If it is a meeting, wedding or convention you are planning Wyndham Grand Rio Mar is the perfect venue. Choose from sprawling facilities with room up to 2,300 guests, over 48,000 square feet of indoor space comfortably hosts all types of events, while 58,000 square feet of outdoor space accommodates al fresco luncheons, cocktail parties and more. With 24 flexible meeting rooms, dedicated event staff and an unparalleled environment for group activities the resort is the ideal location.
Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Country Club boasts two outstanding championship golf courses. Legendary course architects Tom and George Fazio put their minds together to deliver the wonderful Ocean golf course in 1975 which lies between the mountains of El Yunque and the sparkling waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The 6,716-yard layout winds its way among pristine lakes and the natural contours of the land, offering gorgeous and challenging play. Enjoy a magical moment of playing in ocean breezes with the sound of waves coming ashore on the signature 238 yards beachfront 16th hole considered the Caribbean's best par 3.
The River Course, designed by Hall of Fame great Greg Norman, rolls alongside the gentle Memeyes River. The natural terrain of the land inspired Greg's placement of the holes while preserving the existing flora-creating an immaculately beautiful lush layout with views of the mountains and sea. This spectacular course is rated #3 "Best Golf Courses in Puerto Rico" by Golf Digest and is ideal for all skill levels featuring wide fairways, open greens, light rough and shallow bunkers along its 6,945 yards. Typical of Norman, all 18 hole designs can rate the title of
'signature'.
In July 2020, Seth Henrich, a Class A member of the PGA of America and a previous General Manager at El Conquistador Resort for 12 years, and Golf Professional at El Dorado Beach Hotel, both in Puerto Rico, was named Director of Golf & Tennis at the Country Club which is professionally managed by Troon Golf. Prior to coming to Wyndham Grand Rio Mar, Henrich was Director of Golf for the two amazing courses at World Golf Village managed by Honours Golf, a division of Troon. Besides golf, guests can practice their game at the resort's state-of-the-art tennis center featuring 11 Har-Tru and 2 Laykold courts. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is the sponsor for the oldest running PGA TOUR golf tournament contested on the Donald Ross designed Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina this year August 10-15.
